Low Zoom Roads maps

Low-zoom road networks built from OpenStreetMap: for each zoom band, the roads that routes between that band's cities actually travel, so the network grows denser as you zoom in instead of filtering by road class alone. Each band has two checkboxes: routed (roads the sampled city-to-city routes rode) and name/kind (roads admitted by class or name). A band's routed roads appear at its own zoom and its named roads one zoom later. Dots are the cities routes were sampled between, coloured by the zoom they first anchored at; click one for its name and population. Car ferries are drawn in blue. Vector tiles stream on demand (PMTiles); map data (c) OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL. A selection of examples from a world run of about 800 maps.
